South Korea¡¯s defense company LIG Nex1 Co. showcased its cutting-edge defense systems at a major international defense exhibition in Colombia, hoping to expand its presence in the Central and South American market.
The company announced Wednesday that it joined Expo Defensa 2019, an international defense and security fair held from Monday (local time) to Wednesday in Colombia.
Colombia is considered a military super power in Latin America. The country has been focusing on strengthening its defense capabilities by modernizing its old weaponry system. LIG Nex1 opened its Latin American office in the country in 2011 and has joined the defense fair since 2012 to expand its sales. Colombia is also the only South American country that took part in the 1950-1953 Korean war.
The company hopes its efforts to win over one of major defense markets in South America would help it expand its presence in neighboring countries.
¡°LIG Nex1 has been working hard to expand overseas shipments of our defense systems and enter new markets based on our world-class capabilities,¡± Kim Ji-chan, CEO of the company said. ¡°I hope the cutting-edge arsenal that we showcased at the event would contribute to modernizing military system of Latin American countries including Colombia.¡±
At the exhibition, LIG Nex1 displayed its mid-range surface-to-air (STA) guided weapons, portable STA missiles and latest air defense network system as well as marine defense products including ship-to-ship missiles and underwater guided weapons in Bogota.
