Hyosung TNC Corp., textile and trading unit arm of South Korean conglomerate Hyosung Group, has transformed its spandex manufacturing plants in China and Vietnam into smart factories to bolster productivity.

The company said Wednesday that it has added smart factory solutions to its four spandex plants in China and one in Vietnam. A smart factory is a highly digitized and connected production facility that employs computer controls, modeling, big data and other automation to improve manufacturing efficiencies.

With the adoption of the smart solutions, the company can now remotely monitor all manufacturing process, from ordering raw materials to production and shipment, in real time, said the company. The upgrade also is part of the group’s efforts to get its companies ready for the age of the fourth industrial revolution, it said.

Hyosung TNC has turned its factories smarter with solutions of its IT service affiliate Hyosung ITX Co. since the second half of last year. Last month, the IT service provider supplied an IT solution specifically designed for Hyosung TNC’s spandex factory, which would allow the manufacturer to promptly locate and fix problems during manufacturing. “The company will strive to further improve product quality and develop new technology to cement its leadership in global textile market,” said a Hyosung TNC official.
