Samsung Electronics Co. recently opened a new research facility in Silicon Valley, United States, to produce artificial general intelligence (AGI)-specific chips. The AGI Computing Lab boasts a group of the world¡¯s most talented researchers and engineers in the tech sector.

The new facility suggests Samsung Electronics¡¯ shift beyond memory chips to produce next-generation AI features, with other global tech firms already on the path toward AGI chip development.

The lab leader is former Google Inc. developer Woo Dong-hyuk. He was one of the three engineers who designed the tech firm¡¯s Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) platform, according to sources familiar with the matter on Tuesday.
