Digital humans are beginning to show off talents in professional fields in South Korea.
Lotte Home Shopping has been airing TV shopping programs hosted by virtual hosts and models that debuted in December last year. The Korean home shopping channel operator has created non-fungible token of “Lucy,” its artificial intelligence-powered virtual host.
Earlier this year, tech giant Samsung Electronics unveiled a blueprint on AI Avatar, which has on-device conversation recognition and internet-based home control functions to serve as a virtual, personal assistant.
Entertainment field is another rising stage for digital humans.
Han YuA, a virtual artist created by Korean video game developer Smilegate, has signed an exclusive management contract with YG Kplus, a modeling agency under YG Entertainment in February. Han YuA made her debut as a singer in April via YG Kplus, which was recently acquired by Chorokbaem Media.
Megameta Entertainment created a talent management agency dedicated to digital artists. It is headed by Nah Byung-joon, a veteran agent who had previously managed famous Korean actors.
