Samsung Health Monitor, an electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring app on Samsung¡¯s latest smart watch, gained regulatory clearance to add Samsung wearable the feature of monitoring of key biosignals 24/7 from the third quarter of this year.

Samsung smart watch app to measure blood pressure was already approved in April.

The new health tracking app utilizes the sensor technology of Samsung¡¯s Galaxy Watch Active 2 to measure and display atrial fibrillation by analyzing the electrical signals of the heart.

Atrial fibrillation is a type of arrhythmia, where the atrium loses contraction, simultaneously causing the ventricles to contract irregularly as well and leading to fast and irregular beats. Most patients fail to notice this condition because they have no symptoms. This increases the risk of complications, including thrombosis, heart failure, and stroke.

To measure the ECG, open the app and place your smart watch arm on a flat surface, and then place your fingertip of the other hand on the top button of the smartwatch for about 30 seconds.

Samsung Electronics said it will launch the Samsung Health Monitor app equipped with the ECG monitoring function within the third quarter, adding ECG tracking will be available on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 with a built-in sensor or on smart watches that support ECG measurement.

Samsung¡¯s healthcare app to measure blood pressure which was approved in Korea in April is the world`s first medical device for a blood pressure app.
