South Korea`s wireless leader SK Telecom and electronics giant Samsung Electronics joined forces to develop next-generation cloud native core network system, a key telecom infrastructure that handles device certification and quality of service (QoS) management for mobile subscribers.

SK Telecom said the latest core network is the world¡¯s first in the industry to meet the Release 16 (Rel.16) standards of the global wireless standards body 3GPP that cover the second phase of 5G solutions for autonomous driving and smart factory applications.

Under the next-generation cloud native core network system, users can use Internet services at a faster rate, and companies are expected to be able to quickly develop and customize their products and services for consumers.

The two companies have collaborated for two years to develop the system which uses service communication proxy (SCP) technology based on a cloud native format, allowing the carrier to provide low latency, ultra-high speed and enhanced connectivity in 5G services.

SK Telecom said its SCP solution T-Mesh can improve communications speed by 30 percent and maintains stable data traffic through immediate resource allocation in a situation where traffic is concentrated at one time.

It is also expected that the related ecosystem will evolve rapidly due to the improvement of the quality of AR, VR, and cloud games in 5G services, and the activation of future growth business services such as autonomous driving, smart factory, and smart farm.
