Naver announced on Tuesday its artificial intelligence-based translation service Papago surpassed 10 million monthly active users (MAUs) last month.
Papago officially launched in July 2017 supports 13 languages including English, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish. It commands a top spot in the list of mobile translation and translation apps in Korea with over 20 million downloads.
Behind its continued growth is translation quality sophistication and service improvement, the company said, adding Papago’s translation is 27 percent more accurate than that of rival apps in the translation of four major languages, Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese.
Papago’s OCR technology enabling photo-to-text conversion and translation when translating Japanese into Korean will also be applied to Chinese, English and Korean within this year.
Naver said Papago will continue upgrading translation service quality based on a vast amount of Korean language data and optimized machine learning.
