Samsung`s upcoming foldable phone will be a considerably cheaper than the maiden Galaxy Fold thanks to redesigned form factors.

The Galaxy Fold 2 due in February will cost around $850, which is close to the price of the Galaxy S10 series, according to a Tuesday article form Sam Mobile, a blog with a track record in leaking Samsung product releases.

It is half the price of its predecessor and more affordable than the Motorola Razr ($1,500) scheduled to be launched in January. But the Fold 2 may have lower level specifications compared to the Razr which has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage, Sam Mobile said.

Samsung Electronics adopted a clamshell design for the second-generation foldable phone. The design was already unveiled at this year¡¯s Samsung Developer Conference held in October.

Jeong Hyesoon, head of Framework R&D Group at Samsung`s mobile communications said, the upcoming model is folded horizontally unlike its predecessor and is compact enough to be carried in a shirt pocket.

The new phone is focused on making the screen reducible, not expandable. Samsung has yet to disclose the name of the new phone, release date and the price tag, but market watchers bet that it will be released at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) early next year.
