South Korea¡¯s health authorities have issued an order to recall some botulinum toxin products manufactured by local drugmaker Medytox due to a recalculated expiry date.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said on Tuesday the recall affects Meditoxin 100 U products whose expiry date was curtailed by a year from 36 months to 24 months.

The latest order comes after the ministry¡¯s investigations into a whistleblower`s claim that the botox producer committed a foul play during production.

It marks a second recall this year issued on Medytox products after some of the company¡¯s botox products for overseas markets were recalled due to poor quality issues.

A ministry official said the recall decision is based on the judgment that quality safety of products manufactured 24 months or more ago is not guaranteed.

Medytox said the recall is limited to only Meditoxin 100 U products manufactured before Dec. 4, 2017, arguing the impact will not be heavy because many of these products were already consumed.
