Samsung Electronics said on Thursday its latest Bixby 2.0 artificial intelligence platform will be deployed on older devices, including the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 from the end of this month globally and from January in Korea.
Bixby 2.0 was launched alongside the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 flagship device in August.
The update will be installed when a phone updates to the Android 9.0 operating system, said the Korean tech giant.
The latest move aims to beef up the number of Bixby users. Samsung Electronics recently launched a beta version of Bixby 2.0 in German, French, British English, Italian and Spanish.
Samsung claims Bixby 2.0 is better than the original version in terms of understanding context and connecting to third-party applications, but local users of Bixby 2.0 complain that the latest version is unable to carry out as many tasks as its predecessor.
