A connection problem has occurred in Korean servers under Amazon Web Services (AWS), the largest commercial cloud provider in the world, raising concerns of possible industry-wide damage in local companies relying on AWS.
According to sources on Thursday, dozens of Korean companies running business on Amazon’s cloud reported a failure in system connectivity. They include food delivery app operator Baedal Minjok, e-commerce company Coupang, and game developer Smile Gate.
Upbit, a Korean cryptocurrency exchange, also experienced a similar problem, causing investors to fret over missing timely trade. An AWS customer said it has received a report that “a server failover occurred due to Amazon’s internal DNS problem and the company will go all out to inspect and normalize the system as soon as possible.”
An official from AWS said, “We had a misconfiguration in our Korea region for some of our DNS servers that prevented DNS resolution from EC2 instances for 84 minutes today. The configuration error has been fixed and the services are operating normally. “
Amazon Web Services launched its Seoul Region cloud data center in Korea in 2016.
