The world¡¯s first foldable handheld device opens up to a 7.3-inch display capable of supporting three active apps at once like a mini tablet, although primarily working as a phone, according to its inventor Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Electronics did not reveal the finished device, but tantalized with a panel to show a glimpse of what a foldable phone would look like at its annual Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) held in San Francisco on Wednesday (local time).
The screen is 7.3 inches when fully opened, with a 4.2:3 aspect ratio. The cover display when folding the phone is 4.58 inches with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a screen density of 420 dpi in both cases, said Jisun Park, engineering director and head of the system software group for Samsung`s mobile business. The resolution is 1536x2152. Battery and other specifications and launch details were not disclosed.
The cover display is smaller compared to existing ¡®hard¡¯ smartphones but you can use all apps like for calling, messaging or web search available on the cover the same way as you do on the main display, he added.
The foldable phone can run up to three apps at the same time, allowing the user to browse, watch and multitask like never before, according to the company. For example, you can watch a YouTube video on the left screen and divide the right screen into two to send a text message and browse the web simultaneously.
