SKT and KT honored in recognition of global leadership in Wi-Fi technology

SK Telecom and KT Corp., South Korea¡¯s leading mobile carriers, have been globally honored once again for their leadership in next-generation Wi-Fi technology.

SK Telecom Thursday said it received a top customer value award during the 7th Wireless Broadband Alliance Industry Award held in London on Thursday (local time). The industry award is organized by the Wireless Broadband Alliance consisting of global telecom companies such as AT&T, NTT DoCoMo and Qualcomm and Wi-Fi equipment vendors. It is the most prestigious award in the Wi-Fi industry.

SK Telecom said the award recognized its reliable communication service with next-generation `T Wi-Fi AX` despite huge data traffic in busy urban streets. The 802.11ax standard-based service features a maximum speed of 4.8Gbps per AP.

On the same day, KT Corp. won 5G Leadership Award and Top Frontrunner Award at the World Communication Award and the 2018 WBA Industry Awards, respectively, both held in London.

The World Communication Award, in its 20th year this year, was introduced by global ICT research organization Total Telecom. The award is given in recognition of innovative achievements in network technology, branding and marketing. Winners were selected in 25 categories including 5G, AI, enterprise, marketing and IoT this year and KT Corp. became the first Korean winner on the occasion.
