Global technology company Google said on Thursday that it will join hands with South Korea¡¯s LG Electronics Inc. to build future smart towns powered by Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and artificial intelligence (AI), with hopes to provide more efficient living space.

Under the partnership, which was unveiled at Google Cloud Summit in Seoul, Google and LG Electronics will work with property development firms and apply IoT, big data, and AI technologies to create intelligent city space. Details on the smart city location were not given, although earlier, Google and LG Electronics expressed interest in investing in G-City project that involves establishing a 278,000 square meter smart business complex in Cheongna, Incheon, by 2026.

Rhee In-jong, vice president of IoT and entrepreneur in residence at Google, said that the company will work with other partners such as property development and investment firms to carry out its smart home and smart town project.

The envisioned initiative, for example, would enable a transportation camera to discover a child crossing the street and extend red signal at crossroad to allow more safety. It will also provide energy monitoring, lighting, temperature adjustment control system solutions to allow improved energy efficiency.
