South Korea¡¯s telecom giant KT Corp. Tuesday installed a 5G open lab to show its commitment to catalyzing the industry ecosystem and supporting collaboration with local suppliers in the development of 5G technologies at its R&D center in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

The new lab consists of three main sectors - infra zone for development of 5G-related infrastructure and virtualization technology, media zone for immersive media and entertainment services like augmented and virtual reality, and smart-X zone for Internet of Things (IoT) service development.

KT plans to hold various events to celebrate the opening of the lab on the 555th day since its chairman Hwang Chang-gyu announced the 5G network commercialization plan for 2019 at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain, in February last year.

It will also hold a technology meeting with China Mobile Ltd. and NTT DoCoMo Inc. for two days from Wednesday to discuss their 5G roadmaps and technologies. It is also planning to showcase its various 5G solutions at the Mobile World Congress Americas 2018 running three days from September 12 in Los Angeles, the U.S.

KT also added that it will install a special booth at this year`s ¡®VOYAGE To Jarasum¡¯ festival kicking off September 15 in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, to offer hands-on 5G experiences to visitors.
