À̹ÌÁö È®´ë South Korea¡¯s KT Corp. said on Wednesday it is developing an open self-driving vehicle platform based on its 5G communication network.
The platform dubbed 5GaaVP (5G as a Vehicle Platform) is based on the company¡¯s four core technologies related to 5G infrastructure, 5G-V2X (Vehicle to Everything), precision positioning and intelligence control systems.
The company is planning to unveil a prototype self-driving car at Pangyo Zero City in Seongnam, a real-world test field, in May.
KT has developed a self-driving vehicle since 2015 and prototyped a 5G-enabled bus last year. On its roadmap, the company will work together with local governments across the country in validation of its 5G self-driving vehicle platform.
KT has developed a precision positioning technology to accurately identify the current position of the vehicle and will provide it in a platform form. The precise positioning technology can identify driving lanes to allow for stable vehicle control.
"We are also planning to provide an intelligent control service using big data based on an autonomous driving platform,¡± a company official said.
KT aims to take a lead in the fledgling autonomous vehicle market by bringing vitality to the industry ecosystem with its open self-driving platform based on 5G technology.
