Major companies are halting their advertising on social media platform X as its owner Elon Musk faces furor over his controversial antisemitic posts.

According to the New York Times on Saturday, Warner Bros. Discovery and Sony have joined other companies in pausing their spending on X.

Following the decision of IBM last week, many others including Apple, Paramount Global, and CBS Broadcasting announced halting ads on the platform.

The pullbacks began last week when Musk made comments defending conspiracy theories against Jews.

Musk on Wednesday attacked members of the Jewish community for pushing “dialectical hatred” against white people.

He also responded, “You have said the actual truth,” to a post that said “using specific language that has been used in the past to justify violent attacks on synagogues.”

Jewish groups have taken issue with the post, claiming it falls under one of the Jewish conspiracy theories, or “replacement theory,” which holds that Jews are organizing immigrants of color to replace whites.

This theory was also behind the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting.

The European Commission has also decided to stop advertising on X.

“In order to avoid the risk of defamation of the EU Commission, we advise you to temporarily suspend your advertising until further notice,” the commission’s Deputy Chief Spokesperson Dana Spinant said in a note sent to all heads of service and directors general.
