Seoul National University (SNU), South Korea’s most prestigious university, will open master`s and/or doctoral programs to groom talents behind precision medicine that is revolutionizing treatment and diagnosis with emerging technologies to back the country’s burgeoning healthcare industry that came under spotlight for its quick response to COVID-19 outbreak.

SNU, which is also among the top 10 universities in Asia, said that three departments focused on medical device engineering, interdisciplinary healthcare and clinical nursing science will be in place under three respective graduate schools from the first semester of the 2021 academic year.

The medical device engineering department opening under the university’s Graduate School of Medicine will enroll five students in a master’s degree program and seven in an integrated master`s/doctoral degree program.

The interdisciplinary healthcare department under Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology, which will be the university’s first employment contract department, will provide students with entitlement to work at SNU Bundang Hospital as senior research engineer for two years after graduation. The new major will receive 10 doctoral degree candidates for the upcoming semester.

SNU Bundang Hospital has run Healthcare Innovation Park (HIP) to promote innovation and cross-skilling between medical doctors and researchers in patient-centered care on the hospital’s cutting-edge research infrastructure.

The clinical nursing science department under Graduate School of Nursing will enroll 15 master’s degree candidates to provide advanced training for nurses working at SNU Bundang Hospital and Seoul National University Hospital.
