South Korea¡¯s Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. will have a new round of head-to-head competition to grab the industry¡¯s best premium TV brand title with their newest upmarket TV sets at this year¡¯s Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) later this month.
At the IFA 2018, a major international exhibition for home appliances running from Aug. 31 to Sep. 5 in Berlin, Germany this year, Samsung Electronics will show off the world¡¯s first 8K resolution QLED TV, its latest premium model backed by quantum-dot display technology that boasts of high resolution and improved image and sound quality thanks to artificial intelligence (AI)-controlled image technology. Currently 4K is the highest resolution available in the TV market.
The company¡¯s another newest version of premium model "The Frame," a TV that can be turned into an interior item displaying paintings and pictures when it¡¯s powered off, will also be displayed to catch the eyes of visitors at the show.
LG Electronics will vie against its arch rival with its latest 8K OLED TV model. Since LG¡¯s OLED and Samsung¡¯s QLED have been fiercely fighting over the industry¡¯s best TV technology title, the winner at this year¡¯s IFA would have a chance to further expand its share in the global premium market, market analysts expected.
Besides the 8K OLED TV set, LG Electronics will also unveil the world¡¯s largest 170-inch MicroLED technology-based TV set at the show. It is larger than Samsung Electronics¡¯ 146-inch MicroLED TV, dubbed "The Wall" presented at the world¡¯s largest home appliance exhibition CES 2018 held Las Vegas, the U.S. in January.
