South Korea¡¯s LG Display recently supplied the country¡¯s first transparent organic light-emitting diode (OLED) for rail cars to the newly inaugurated Great Train eXpress (GTX) A line, as reported on Sunday.

GTX, a commuter rail network in the Seoul Capital Area, connects the outskirts of the city to major hubs within the metropolitan area. The 55-inch transparent OLEDs installed on the windows of GTX-A cabins provide passengers with route maps, as well as operation and convenience information, at a glance.

The large-screen display with crisp image quality enhances visibility, making it easier for passengers to access information. It also offers them a unique experience by providing various entertainment options during long journeys.

According to LG Display, the OLEDs are reinforced with special tempered glass to withstand impacts and vibrations, ensuring reliable operation even as speeds exceed 150 km/h on the tracks.

LG Display and GTX-A operator SG Rail initially introduced 16 transparent OLEDs on 8 trains (1 set) running between Suseo and Dongtan. SG Rail plans to expand the implementation to the entire GTX-A network after gathering feedback from passengers.
