LG Electronics is accelerating its pace in its car electronics business by developing a self-driving vehicle platform. On Thursday, LG Electronics announced the development of an autonomous driving platform in partnership with Magna, integrating in-vehicle infotainment and advanced driver-assistance systems. This platform combines LG Electronics¡¯ IVI technology with Magna¡¯s ADAS and autonomous driving solutions into a single chipset module.

The integration of IVI, ADAS, and autonomous driving solutions into one component is advantageous in freeing up vehicle space by reducing the volume previously occupied by individual components.

¡°The cost is reduced compared to incorporating each system separately. This new autonomous driving platform will offer a safe and efficient driving experience through information sharing and processing among systems,¡± said an LG Electronics official.

This platform implements the interface (HMI) for human-machine interaction applied to automotive displays such as pillar-to-pillar display (P2P) and augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD).

The P2P display integrates the instrument cluster, central information display, and passenger-side display into a single unit. Meanwhile, the AR-HUD presents visual information aiding forward attention in 2D and 3D graphic images. Drivers can not only access alerts and alternate routes for safe driving but also various lifestyle information through the car¡¯s display.

LG Electronics plans to debut this platform at CES 2024 in Las Vegas on Jan. 9 (local time). The company aims to introduce the 2027 model after conducting technical stabilization, targeting the software-defined vehicle (SDV) market.
