Hyundai Motor Co.¡¯s electric vehicle model Ioniq Electric has been picked as the best car of year in Chile, beating Toyota¡¯s Prius and BMW¡¯s i8. Hyundai Motor said on Friday its Ioniq Electric doubled the title as the best ecological car in Chile.

To select the best car of year, major 20 Chilean media companies reviewed various features like design, driving performance and safety level of the cars released in the previous year. Ioniq Electric this year beat its rivals including Toyota¡¯s Prius, Nissan¡¯s Leaf and BMW¡¯s i8.

Hyundai Ioniq Electric can go as far as 191 kilometers (119 miles) on a single charge to boast better mileage than its peers, an official at the automaker explained. Ioniq Hybrid will likely drive Pope Francis during his visit to Chile from Jan 15 to 18.

According to National Automobile Association of Chile, Hyundai Motor last year was second best-selling brand after General Motors, selling 29,566 units in the first 11 months of the year to account for a 9.1 percent in Chile.
