South Korea’s electronics giant Samsung Electronics said on Wednesday its new Kimchi refrigerator “Kimchi Plus” that can store other foods such as bananas and potatoes at the best storage temperatures will hit the Korean market soon.
The new product aims to meet the needs of consumers who want to use their Kimchi fridges to store different kinds of vegetables and fruits after the kimchi-making season, the company said. Kimchi Plus helps maintain consistent internal temperatures like underground conditions within the margin of error of ±0.3 degree Celsius at its full metal cooling function, according to the company. In the slow season for kimchi, tropical fruit and root vegetables that are hard to be stored in ordinary fridges can be stored in the premium refrigerator.
The middle and bottom drawers of the metal cooling sections feature 17 customizing storage functions with six for kimchi and 11 for other foods.
Three options are offered differently for ordinary and low-salt kimchi types with each coming with customized cooling degree such as super-, standard- and weak-cooling.
The rest of 11 options for other foods are to customize the storage mode-three refrigeration modes, four freezer modes and four freshness modes.
Kimchi Plus will be available in two models with different storage capacity such as 584ℓ and 486ℓ at 2.49 to 5.99 million won ($2,208~$5,312).
