The central computer server of South Korea`s transportation giant Hanjin Group was temporarily shut down during the early hours on Monday morning, tying up about forty flights on the ground and troubling its package delivery service.

The system has returned to normal soon. It is not known how much the brief system paralysis has costed the country¡¯s flag carrier Korean Air Lines Co. and its logistics arm.

Hanjin Group, which operates Korean Air Lines Co., budget carrier Jin Air Co. and namesake logistics service, said Monday that its central server experienced a glitch after electric power was cut off during a safety check-up on electric facilities. The group ruled out any hacking or ransomware attacks and said the server was recovered around 2:20 a.m. on Monday after power supply was immediately restored.

Korean Air Line¡¯s 39 flights and Jin Air¡¯s two flights were delayed as its staff had to manually process the check-in with their online system temporarily shut down. The computer server glitch has delayed departure of Korean Air Line¡¯s 22 flights by one to two hours and 12 flights by up to three hours. The flight departing Bali, Indonesia for Seoul, Korea is expected to arrive at Incheon Airport more than 12 hours behind schedule due to the latest incident. The airline has decided to offer free meal and hotel services to 219 passengers on the plane.

The website for Hanjin¡¯s logistics service also was temporarily paralyzed that its customers could not make a reservation for parcel delivery service or use its real-time parcel delivery status check service.
