Maekyung Thailand Forum to kick off in Bangkok on May 16

Maekyung Thailand Forum where illustrious business leaders from South Korea and Thailand will gather together to discuss business and economic development topics will take place in Bangkok this week.

The global forum is organized by Korea¡¯s largest business dedicated media enterprise Maekyung Media Group to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between South Korea and Thailand.

Since 2004, the Korean media group has held its global forum in major cities across the world including Washington D.C. and Beijing. This year¡¯s forum will be held in Bangkok for two days starting Wednesday and focus on two key themes: ASEAN Connectivity and Thailand 4.0; Korea-Thailand Cooperation for the 4th Industrial Revolution. The event is expected to draw over 300 government officials and entrepreneurs from both countries.

The forum will start with Korean entrepreneurs¡¯ meeting with Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on Wednesday. Nearly 180 representatives of Korea¡¯s major companies will visit the Government House where Prayuth will talk about Thailand¡¯s economic strength and investment opportunities.

On the following day, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripita accompanied by heads of the country¡¯s key ministries including trade, digital economy, and energy will attend Maekyung Thailand Forum. At the event, Thai business moguls Chansin Treenuchagron, chief technology and engineering officer and soon to be new chief executive officer of Thailand`s state-owned oil and gas group PTT, Weerawat Kiattipongthaworn, chief corporate officer of Thailand`s largest mobile operator AIS, and Predee Daochai, president and executive director of Kasikornbank and chairman of Thailand¡¯s bank federation will share their economic and business insights.

From Korea, Paik Un-gyu, minister of trade, industry and energy as well as executives of Korea¡¯s major companies including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and LS Mtron will visit Bangkok for the Maekyung Thailand Forum. Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization and state-run Thailand Board of Investment are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in new biotech projects during the forum.
