CJ Group chief Sohn named chairman of Korea Employers Federation

CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik has been appointed as the new chairman of South Korea¡¯s business lobbying group Korea Employers Federation (KEF) on Tuesday.

Sohn accepted the post after the five members of KEF¡¯s selection committee had unanimously named him the seventh chairman, according to the federation. The committee said Sohn is a highly respected businessman and has an ample experience in the field as he played an important role in narrowing differences of the government, workers and employers while serving as chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

¡°I will work hard to contribute to establishing sound labor-management relations and developing the nation¡¯s economy based on my experience in the business and economic groups,¡± said Sohn.

Sohn served as chairman of KCCI from 2005 to 2013 and has made a contribution to stabilizing relationship with the government and businesses. Born in 1939, he worked for Hanil Bank and Samsung Electronics and joined CJ Group in 1993 as chief executive officer and vice chairman. He was promoted to chairman of CJ Group in 1994.
