KCC sets up its 11th solar power facility in Yongin

South Korea¡¯s building and industrial materials company KCC Corp. completed construction of its 11th solar power plant in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, which uses solar panels installed on the outside walls of its research center to generate electricity, the company announced on Thursday.

The solar power plant has 3,150 solar modules, the largest among domestic solar power generation facilities using panels on the exterior walls. It is capable of producing 1,344.3MWh of electricity per annum, enough to power 373 households a year and expected to contribute to reducing carbon emissions by 627 tons per year.

Separately, the company signed a business agreement with Korea Energy Agency¡¯s Renewable Energy Center on the same day to cooperate in developing and promoting eco-friendly energy sources. They will join forces in launching large-scale renewable energy projects, promoting photovoltaic businesses utilizing idle areas and distributing the use of green energy.

KCC has been ramping up its research and development efforts in renewable energy including solar, wind and biomass. It provides comprehensive solutions for solar power generation from devising projects, financing, and engineering to operation and maintenance.

The company¡¯s total 11 solar power facilities installed in its manufacturing plants across the nation have a combined output capacity of 23GWh per year, enough to supply 300kWh of electricity to 6,540 households every month for a year.

KCC shares closed Thursday 0.63 percent lower at 314,500 won ($277.34).
