Samsung Electronics is bringing a new wave of change into the cinema industry as its film projector-free cinema LED solution ¡®Oynx¡¯ quickly spreads to theaters around the world and gains recognition from Hollywood, home to motion pictures.

The South Korean tech giant first unveiled Oynx in Seoul in June 13 and has made inroads overseas, installing the system at 12 cinemas in eight countries so far and multiple new deals are on the way.

After introducing Onyx to Seoul and Busan theaters last year, Samsung tapped Thailand as the first overseas market for the solution, installing it at the Paragon Cineplex Theatre in Bangkok last October.

After reaching the U.S., China, Mexico and Malaysia, Samsung¡¯s Onyx hit Germany this month. More recently, Samsung clinched deals with partners in Mexico, Austria and India, signaling additional installations.

Samsung officially launched Onyx for its cinema LED display screen in April during CinemaCon 2018 held in Las Vegas, which is one of the most important official conventions for the worldwide motion picture theatre industry.

In June, Onyx was nominated for the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA)¡¯s 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards. Awards will be formally presented in November in Los Angeles.
