Schneider Electric, a French specialist in energy management and automation, said on Monday its cumulative output of smart electronic motor protection relays (EOCRs) made in Korea has surpassed 16 million units.

EOCRs widely applied to energy management and automation industries are used to protect machine parts from excess current on the power lines.

Since 1983, Schneider Electric has produced EOCRs at a Korean plant in Iksan, which is one of the company¡¯s 200 plants worldwide. The EOCRs assembled in Korea are being distributed to 20 countries. The annual output stands at 1 million.

¡°We have continuously improved the quality of EOCRs through research and capacity building and the latest milestone is the result of contribution from all of our employees. We are committed to further raising the sustainability and productivity of our Iksan plant,¡± said a spokesman for Schneider Electric Korea.

The Paris-headquartered company has 160,000 employees in about 100 countries. It started business in 1836 in the heavy industry sector and ventured into power automation and control in the 20th century. The business-to-business company entered the Korean market in 1975 for energy management business. It generated 35 trillion won ($31.6 billion) in worldwide sales last year, of which 400 billion won was credited to its operation in Korea.
