South Korea’s building external panel maker S.Y.Panel Co. said Monday it has joined hands with SK Group’s clean energy & solution unit SK E&S in rooftop panel business.

The partnership was built as part of efforts to meet the renewable portfolio standard (RTS), the regulation that requires the increased production of energy from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, biomass and geothermal.

SK E&S and other energy suppliers with a capacity of 500 megawatt or above have an obligation to generate a certain amount of electricity from renewable energy sources.

The duo will install solar panels for free and operate the facilities for some time to help customers use solar energy. The two can meet the RTS requirements, and customers also enjoy free roof replacements that also can generate energy.

“Rooftop solar panels are the easiest solution to spread renewable energy, which also can save maintenance cost for building owners,” said an official at S.Y.Panel.
