South Korea¡¯s leading mobile carrier SK Telecom Co. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with U.S.-based network measurement equipment and software company Keysight Technologies to work together in developing the 5G design technology, the Korean company said on Sunday.

Under the partnership, the two will develop a measurement solution and a shadow area analysis simulation methodology optimized to the high frequency bands of 3.5§× and 28§×.

They also agreed to explore massive MIMO and beamforming solutions. Massive MIMO allows base stations to transmit multiple streams of data while beamforming brings higher gain and power, realizing greater data capacity.

They will also jointly develop a solution to measure the quality of 5G terminals.

¡°The 5G network uses high-frequency waves, requiring a completely new network design and the collaboration will make sure faultless data delivery quality on the 5G network,¡± said an SK Telecom spokesman.

Meanwhile, SK Telecom said it completed the development of a next-generation packet switching system together with Samsung Electronics to ensure a stable delivery of new data services in the 5G era, allowing for fast throughput and automatic identification of traffic characteristics in web connection.
