KT said its TV set-top box equipped with voice-activated AI system has been supplied to 500,000 viewers in its first year amid increased demand for video-based functions and Internet Protocol TV (IPTV).

According to KT on Thursday, its subscribers to GiGa Genie that provides media service linked to the company¡¯s IPTV service Olleh TV topped 500,000. The AI-activated TV set-top box that was released in January last year reached 100,000 by June.

On top of typical voice-activated functions, KT has enhanced its set-top box to satisfy increasing customers¡¯ demands. Now GiGa Genie allows users to enjoy a wide range of media services linked to the company¡¯s IPTV service, music streaming service, and AI-base home service.

Its natural language processing and deep-learning technologies make it possible to remember the user¡¯s previous orders in responding to new ones and interpret complicated commands. With the set-top box, users can use banking services, make food delivery orders and check the news.
