LG Electronics Inc.¡¯s latest flagship Android smartphone G7 ThinQ will be fitted a twice brighter screen enabling users not to flinch to see the monitor under a bright daylight.

The Korean electronics giant said on Wednesday that LG G7 ThinQ, slated for release on May 2, will come with a 6.1-inch large screen with a QHD+ (3,120 x 1,440) resolution.

The ¡®super bright display¡¯ of LG G7 ThinQ would offer brighter and clearer picture quality while consuming less energy compared to rivaling devices with the same screen size and resolution, according to the company.

The flagship phone¡¯s screen can be cranked up to 1,000 nits under bright sunlight, making it nearly two times brighter than most other smartphones whose displays can support between 500 and 600 nits, said the company. Nit is a unit of visibly-light intensity, and 1 nit is as bright as to one candle lights up a 1 square-meter room.

LG G7 ThinQ also supports 100-percent DCI-P3 color gamut, a color standard for digital movie projection in film industry, and offers six screen color modes - Auto, Eco, Cinema, Sports, Game, and Expert - to allow the phone users to choose from depending on the video content.

It also consumes 30 percent less energy compared to its predecessor G6, despite the upgrade in screen quality, said the company.

The latest tease showed that LG¡¯s new phone has adopted Apple iPhone X¡¯s design with a notch, or black cutout, on the top front bezel for greater usable screen space, confirming the market rumor. The bottom bezel was also nearly half wide compared to G6 to make the screen bigger.

Despite keeping up with the latest technologies, LG has been struggling in the premium smartphone business. It changed strategy to stick to the fundamentals, albeit smarter with the help of voice-enabled assistant ThinQ.
