Samyang Optics, a Korean manufacturer of camera lenses, announced on Friday it has won the best award at the 2018 Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) Awards in the category of CSC Prime Lens.

TIPA is an independent association of writers and editors representing 30 publications in 14 nations, and annually presents awards honoring products and technologies of special merit in the fields of photography and imaging.

Samyang Optics is the first Korean winner of the TIPA award.

The company¡¯s award-winning auto-focus lens AF 35mm F2.8 FE launched last year is compact, light and sharp. The pancake lens is only 3.3cm long and weighs just 85g. The portable lens is ideal for photographers wishing to capture every memory during their travels as a high-quality image, the company said in a statement.

Founded in 2013, Samyang Optics went public on the Kosdaq market last June as a company dedicated to camera lens production and distribution.

¡°As a Korean brand, we feel very proud to receive this award as recognition of our auto-focus lens by the globally prestigious association. We will further focus on research and development to bring better products to customers,¡± said a Samyang Optics spokesperson.

The 2018 award winners were determined by votes from 30 media editors who gathered in Lisbon, Portugal. The awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held in September during Photokina 2018, the world`s largest photographic and imaging-related exhibition, in Cologne, Germany.

Samyang Optics shares closed Friday down 0.85 percent at 17,400 won ($16.30).
