Doosan Infracore Co., the heavy equipment unit of South Korea’s conglomerate Doosan Group, said on Thursday it has won a 12 billion won ($11 million) deal to ship 68 units of mini excavators to the Myanmar government.

This is the largest single deal the company has ever obtained in Myanmar, it said.

Under the contract, Doosan Infracore will supply 40 units of 7.5-ton DX75 and 28 units of 5.5-ton DX55, which will be used for the city maintenance project in Sagaing and Bago, near the capital city of Naypyidaw, according to the company.

To win the deal, Doosan Infracore has actively promoted its products by providing 70 members of related staff with a training course for its newly launched telematics solution DoosanCONNECT, which allows remote monitoring of its heavy construction equipment.

Demand for excavators in Myanmar is expected to grow further from current 1,500 units per year thanks to a boom in infrastructure projects led by the government.

Doosan Infracore has been aggressively seeking to expand its foothold in the country, succeeding in upping its market share from 2 percent in 2010 to 19 percent as of last month.

Doosan Infracore’s efforts to expand its presence abroad have lately paid off in other countries, too. Before the latest contract, the Korean company succeeded in winning orders to supply 30 units of wheel loaders for a port project in Qatar in March and to deliver 33 excavators for airport expansion and subway construction projects in Singapore in June last year.
