Scottish top craft beer maker BrewDog said on Thursday it is opening a brewery/pub in Itaewon, a popular night-life expat haunt in Seoul, in July.

BrewDog has gained popularity in the UK with its wild and strong brand image since its inception in 2007. It expanded its business through crowdfunding and became the UK¡¯s fastest growing beer brand valued at 1 trillion won ($942 million). The brewery last year earned 112 million pounds in sales.

Crowdfunding will also be employed to run operation in Korea, the UK brand¡¯s joint venture BrewDog Korea said.

An increasing number of foreign brands are eyeing on the Korean market amid surge in taste for craft beer.

BrewDog would be the second company who makes forays into Korea by opening its brew pub after U.S.-based brand Goose Island.

BrewDog¡¯s bottled beer like its flagship Punk IPA is distributed via Indulge in Korea, imported wine and liquor retail unit under LF Corp.

¡°The new brew pub will offer freshly brewed beer and other various options in collaboration with domestic brands,¡± said an official at BrewDog Korea.
