South Korea’s telecom giant KT Corp. will launch a new language learning program for preschoolers next week using its set-top box GiGa Genie voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

KT announced on Tuesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Seoul-based online education company SmartStudy Co. to jointly develop content for children using KT’s IT technology. Under the partnership, KT will service a new English learning program in which children learn and repeat Pinkfong songs in English through KT’s set-top box GiGa Genie.

SmartStudy, developer of mobile educational applications for children, created the globally popular Pinkfong character and songs.

Through the AI-backed GiGa Genie, young viewers will be able to watch Pinkfong videos and follow phrases in English. GiGa Genie’s voice recognition system will analyze the pronunciation and give feedback. KT expects that the new service would benefit preschoolers as the program that allows children to listen to and follow popular Pinkfong songs such as Baby Shark and Pinkfong Mother Goose is not only educational but also entertaining. The company plans to launch the service in other languages.

KT and SmartStudy also agreed to jointly develop new preschool programs using AI and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, the telecom giant said.
