South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun on Tuesday met with Amnon Shashua, founder and chief executive of Israel’s self-driving car firm Mobileye N.V., in Seoul, to discuss ways to expand partnership in connected car technology.

According to multiple industry sources, Shashua, who is in town to attend the 18th World Knowledge Forum, met with Chung at Hyundai Motor Group headquarters in Yangjae-dong, southern Seoul, on Tuesday. Chung in May visited Israel and spoke with Mobileye executives.

Mobileye, the world’s first developer and leader of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technology, was recently acquired by U.S. chipmaker Intel Corporation for $15.3 billion. Shashua also serves as senior vice president of Intel.

Mobileye currently supplies vehicle-use cameras and sensors to Hyundai Motor Co. and its sister company Hyundai Mobis Co. Industry sources note that at the latest meeting in Seoul, Chung and Shashua may have discussed measures to expand partnership in autonomous driving technology. In particular, sources note that the two executives also could have discussed ways to promote partnership between Hyundai Motor Group and Intel.

Hyundai Motor has been putting out efforts to promote development in connected car technology. Currently, it is in partnership with various technology firms including U.S. information technology (IT) and networking equipment firm Cisco Systems Inc., China’s Internet company Baidu Inc., and U.S. ride-hailing company Uber Technologies Inc. Chung has expressed in June at an event introducing Hyundai Motor’s compact sport utility vehicle Kona that the automaker plans to expand partnership with various information communication and technology (ICT) firms.
