South Korea¡¯s leading construction equipment maker Doosan Infracore Co. said on Monday it has launched upgraded version in its telematics system to support automated and smart operation of industrial vehicles in the North American market.

The telematics service that uses wireless networks through satellite signals and mobile communications allows users to monitor the location of equipment and raise the efficiency of equipment operation and site management by utilizing equipment data.

DoosanCONNECT is an upgraded version to Doosan Infracore¡¯s telematics service with better user convenience, the company said.

Via DoosanCONNECT, a construction company can remotely check the location and operation status of its construction vehicles such as excavators, wheel loaders and articulated dump trucks and manage them and working areas more efficiently, the company claimed.

Doosan Infracore started to offer its telematics service first in 2005 in China and then expanded it to European and North American markets to cover about 46,000 units of equipment all over the world. The company has also been rolling out the upgraded DoosanCONNECT service in China and Europe since 2015.

By launching the service in North America, Doosan Infracore has successfully completed upgrading its telematics service in major global markets. The company is also readying to launch DoosanCONNECT in Korea by the first half of next year after it obtained a license for location information business from the Korea Communications Commission last year. It is currently offering trial services for about 100 units in the country.

¡°We¡¯re upgrading the service to the Korean version that caters for domestic demands,¡± said a Doosan Infracore official.

In addition, Doosan Infracore and Seoul National University jointly developed a new technology last month that forecasts and diagnoses potential problems of components used in a construction vehicle using big data analysis and artificial intelligence. The company is preparing to commercialize the technology after it completed the test.
