South Korea’s largest automaker Hyundai Motor Co. and its sister company Kia Motors Corp. will install automatic emergency braking system to all of their vehicles from next year.

The forward collision-avoidance assist (FCA) uses a radar sensor to monitor the distance from the vehicle ahead to alert the driver when it anticipates a collision and automatically hits the brakes in emergency situations.

The two companies on Sunday said they will mount the FCA technology as a standard feature on all of their new vehicles to be released next year. It will also add it to upgraded models, including redesigns, facelifts and refreshes, to make the system available in all of their cars by 2020.

More car makers are opting to include the FCA technology in their vehicles as a standard feature. A recent study by Samsung Traffic Safety Research Institute also showed that vehicles equipped with the system were 25.2 percent less likely to be involved in a car crash than those without.
