Samsung Electronics said on Thursday it will collaborate with U.S.-based ICT giant Cisco and France-based telco Orange to conduct 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) trial in Romania.

The first multi-vendor environment customer trial in Europe will take place for a month in the second half of this year and is designed to demonstrate how 5G can complement existing fiber deployments to deliver a gigabit-powered bandwidth experience to trial customers.

Samsung will supply 5G home routers and compact 5G access units, as well as its network design services for the trial service, while Cisco will provide its Cisco Ultra Gateway Platform, offering a 5G virtual packet core based on Cisco NFV Infrastructure. The gateway will be deployed with control and user plane separation for enhanced data throughput and flexibility.

Since 2017, Samsung and Cisco have conducted a series of comprehensive network vendor interoperability tests for 5G products.

¡°We will focus on discovering new solutions to ensure an enhanced user experience on the 5G network in partnership with global telco Orange in the European setting following successful demonstrations in the U.S. We will complete the tests successfully to establish an approach to address new market needs and expand business fronts in Europe,¡± said a Samsung official.
