Korea¡¯s SK Telecom said on Tuesday it and Nokia have demonstrated successful data delivery under a global 5G standalone (SA) mobile standard
The two succeeded in reliable end-to-end data delivery and ultra-low delay data transmission in the entire data send/receive process on the 5G SA system specified by the 3GPP, the international group that governs cellular standards, at Nokia¡¯s Research and Development Center in Wroclaw, Poland.
¡°SK Telecom became the first Korean mobile carrier that has successfully demonstrated data communication using a global 5G standalone system,¡± said an SK Telecom spokesman.
SK Telecom signed a strategic partnership with Nokia during the MWC 2018 in Barcelona, Spain in February and has since been involved in data transmission business.
SK Telecom expects mobile carriers and equipment vendors to cut time for network building by about 20 percent with 5G solutions.
In December, SK Telecom successfully demonstrated non-standalone services on the legacy LTE networks. SK Telecom forecasts non-standalone-based terminals and equipment will be used in the initial phase of 5G commercialization.
