LG Electronics Inc. plans to bolster its lineup of high dynamic range (HDR) displays to meet growing consumer demand for a more immersive screen experience.

The South Korean tech giant said Wednesday it will increase its lineup of HDR-supporting displays to 11 by the end of the year, including six already available in the market. Last year it had only one such model.

HDR display technology allows a wider spectrum of colors and displays more vivid whites and darker blacks to make pictures more vibrant and real. It has emerged as one of the biggest buzzwords in consumer tech as it can be applied to a range of devices, from TVs and computer monitors to cameras and smartphones.

LG Electronics said it would offer a broader selection in screen size, including 27-inch, 32-inch, 34-inch and 38-inch displays. In addition to the standard 16:9 monitor, it would provide an ultrawide 21:9 display for gamers and others who want to enjoy richer video content.

The company¡¯s push into HDR-capable displays coincides with the recent flood of HDR contents from Hollywood studios, game companies and online streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon. To meet the growing demand for HDR contents, global electronics companies, including LG Electronics¡¯ archrival Samsung Electronics Co., have been competitively rolling out HDR-fitted screens.
