Kakao Corp., South Korea¡¯s leading mobile messenger operator, said Wednesday it began service in the beta version of its self-developed translation tool on Kakao I, its artificial intelligence platform.

Translation using its proprietary language processing technology will provide more accurate results than former translation engines based on statistical analysis, the company said.

The tool currently supports only English but will soon include Chinese and Japanese and strengthen connections with dictionaries.

The translation service can be found on the firm¡¯s search engine Daum Mobile and its mobile messenger Kakao Talk.

The company also unveiled its three-tier AI ecosystem built around the AI platform Kakao I, the development tool Kakao I Open Builder and the brand authentication mark Kakao I Inside.

Kakao I is a versatile AI platform composed of five main engines including voice recognition, visual recognition, natural language processing, big data-based recommendation and translation. The system underlies the server-based voice recognition technology in Hyundai Motor¡¯s luxury sedan Genesis G70, the music searching technology of the music streaming site Melon as well as the firm¡¯s own AI speaker Kakao Mini.

Kakao I Open Builder, the development tool for Kakao I services, will enter the beta testing phase in late October and be made available to all developers in the first half of next year.

Kakao said it will create an open AI ecosystem by continuously developing core technologies and sharing information with outside partners, with the aim of spreading the reach of its AI services.
