LG Uplus introduces IoT-equipped service for pets in S. Korea

With pet targeted Internet of Things (IoT) devices gaining in popularity, South Korea¡¯s third-largest wireless carrier LG Uplus Corp has also joined the boom launching a smart wireless service for pets that allow owners to monitor them constantly even when they are out.

According to the company on Monday, the IoT-backed service includes a package of smart devices such as a mini home closed-circuit television (CCTV) and an IoT plug and switch that allow pet owners to receive videos of their pets via smartphones to monitor their conditions. The service also enables pet owners to remotely turn on and off home lights, air conditioners, fans, and audio systems to adjust environment for pets. The service also sends a warning via a text message when there are signs of a suspected break-in.

The mini home CCTV service is charged at 8,800 won ($7.6) per month for consumers who are already subscribed to LG Uplus¡¯ Internet service, or else, it is offered at 11,000 won. There is no extra charge for the devices.

To anyone who subscribes to the new pet IoT service by the end of September, LG Uplus will provide free gifts. The first 2,000 subscribers will be given a 5,000 won discount coupon that can be used at Interpark PET, an online shopping mall dedicated to pet items, and a pack of pet food from LG Household & Health Care Ltd.¡¯s premium brand Sirius Will.
