South Korea’s leading web service provider Naver Corp. launched Naver Cloud Platform as part of efforts to strengthen its cloud service business to enhance competitiveness in future-promising technologies.

Naver Business Platform (NBP), a Naver’s subsidiary providing information technology (IT) infrastructure and solutions, released a public cloud service platform Naver Cloud Platform on Monday.

NBP unveiled about 30 basic infrastructure services related to computing, data, security and network. It plans to add four to five new solutions every month. It will also provide application programming interface (API) products to allow its clients to use Naver’s services including web searching, map and voice recognition.

The company has price competitiveness over global cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Service (AWS) and Microsoft (MS) and domestic one like KT Corp., as the price for cloud servers is up to 20 percent cheaper and that of storage up to 50 percent cheaper.

The firm set up service providing bases not only in Korea but also in Singapore and western America. It will broaden its services to six more countries including Hong Kong, Germany and Japan within this year.

Naver Cloud Platform has a competitive edge as it can provide tailored solutions for businesses, according to the company. “We aim to become one of the top five global tech companies within the next two years by making heavy investments in cloud technology and strengthen cooperation and partnership with other companies,” said Park Won-ki, chief executive officer of NBP.

Naver plans to bolster its competitiveness in future technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous vehicles and robotics. It will also share its business experiences and technological capabilities with other companies and individuals.
