South Korea’s largest mobile messaging service provider Kakao Corp. is readying to roll out artificial intelligence-powered software and hardware based on its self-developed technology within the year.

It would complete development of AI-powered smart platform and applications in the first half, incorporate its key messaging, music, and other mobile services, and introduce voice-activated devices exclusive to serve its platform, the company said.

The platform will be open interface inviting other technology companies to help the smart device evolve.

“AI platform is an area Kakao would be best at using its technology on Korean voice command and services network in the country,” said Kim Byung-hak, head of Kakao’s AI division, expressed his confidence.

The task is led by Kakao Brain, its AI-focused subsidiary launched last month.
