S. Korean assembly passes government reorganization outline

South Korea¡¯s National Assembly approved Thursday the new government¡¯s proposed outline for administrative reorganization that would also reinstate a vice-ministerial Trade Representative.

Under the reorganization outline, the Small and Medium Business Administration will be promoted to ministerial level supporting startups and venture enterprises. The Ministry of Public Safety and Security will be dissolved, and Korea Coast Guard and National Emergency Management under the ministry will be separated to become independent entities.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning again would be rebranded - tentatively ministry of science, technology and information and communications. A vice minister entirely devoted on public policy on innovation and science will be newly installed.

The currently vice-ministerial chief of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will be promoted to a minister.

The government reorganization bill also includes reforming the Presidential Security Service to a vice-ministerial organization, changing the name of Ministry of the Interior to tentatively ministry of public administration and security, and installing a new vice-ministerial trade negotiations headquarters under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
